كنا نتحدث عن وضع المسارح فى مصر حين قال لى الأستاذ توفيق الحكيم إنه يتصور أن يخصص المسرح القومى بتقديم تراث المسرح المصرى على مدار العام حتى يظل هذا التراث حيا وحاضرا. فكما تحافظ المتحف على الآثار التاريخية يجب أن يحافظ المسرح القومى على الآثار المسرحية. ومضت السنون ورحل توفيق االحكيم وصارت المشكلة ليست فقط فى عدم إبقاء تراثه المسرحى على خشبة المسرح وإنما فى عدم توفره حتى كنص مطبوع وقد شكا لى وزير ثقافة عربى سابق من انه بحث فى المكتبات أثناء زيادته للقاهرة عن عدد من مسرحيات الحكيم ليكمل بها مجموعته فقيل له أنها نفدت ولم يعاد طبعها منذ سنين
